I felt like I was back at uni again, studying for an exam that would determine my career . Now that I am 150% certain that a career in fashion is something I am determined to exceed in and something that I’m passionate about, this interview became the most important 30 minutes of my life .
After a whole day at work, studying and preparing more to then talking to myself and practicing my answers and how I would structure my sentences, I was finally there . 30 nerve racking minutes . Though I thought I did rather well I had to wait till 9:30am the next day for the result .
In the mean time my boy took me to dinner at a Polish restaurant in Surry Hills for our one month šŸ™‚ was nice to relax and let my hair out .

puberty blues.

after a prolonged absence and much galavanting around europe i’m finally back and lodged firmly in reality. many apologies for my lack of input. i was drunk. seriously. for 3 months.

travel always provides me with inspiration from the strangest sources: architecture, street fashion, stupid dress ups and my own travel lifestyle. taking prominent place this trip was surf culture. i learnt to surf (like a gimp) and suddenly all i wanted to do was sit on the beach, smoke ciggies & drink diet coke whilst perving on the boys. if i could do one thing for the rest of my life, that would be it.

as i made my way through spain, the south of portugal and france living the dream i remembered the australian classic – puberty blues. a critique of the surf lifestyle of the youth of south sydney in the early 80’s the novel/film captures the submissive role of the ‘female surfer’ and both challenges and perpetuates the status quo of women in this setting. if you haven’t seen the film, do yourself a favour and get it. the 1980’s version! not the cookie cutter, home & away bullshit due to be realeased next year.

apart from my internal argument about whether i am actually perpetuating or challenging the idea of ‘surfer girl’ i only have positive thoughts about puberty blues. i mean who the fuck wouldnt want to sit on the beach, get tanned, look at boys and occasionally have a surf. take me back to 1981… i’d happily take Debbie or Sue’s place.

A phone call, excitement & FBI Fashion Business College .

After sitting on the fence for almost 2 months I finally built up the courage to submit my application on Friday night to FBI Fashion College . As I nervously waited all weekend for their response, my phone rang this morning and I knew instantly . I ran out the door at work to answer and it was FBI congratulating me on a successful application and moving forward with the next step, an interview . Wednesday afternoon at 4pm . I’ve been shaking with nerves and excitement since that phone call .
What am I going to wear!? Eeep!

Today I learnt how to wash my own car – a chore not complex for some but I’ve always just paid someone $25 to do the job for me . I started the day having breakfast with the boy, appropriatelyĀ dressed inĀ little ankle booties with a fist full of rings .Ā to thenĀ ending up in Chuck Taylor’s, a knittedĀ sweaterĀ and soapy water spraying in my faceĀ . At least he vacuumed it for me šŸ™‚

Anyone who has been on a holiday to Europe will understand the feeling you get when you realise you only have a few days left until you’re due to return home again . This is one of my favourite photos I’ve ever taken, it’s like they say; a photo says 1000 words .

Impulse, vogue & prada .

Prior to leaving for Europe last year I was flipping through Vogue during Australian Fashion Week and turned straight to the ‘street style’ pages . There they were…these beautiful black Prada platform heels with gold hardware . I searched all over Rome without success, next stop was Venice . I had only just turned around to my sister and told her to not let me buy anything after the Chanel purchase when we conveniently stumbled across Prada, Miu Miu, Chanel, LV and more . We walked up to the shoe section of Prada and there they were, on sale, in both black and tan, the last pairs left in all of Europe…and in my size of course .
Obviously I bought them! šŸ˜‰

Jumbos, classics and Chanel .

I was 19 years old when I first laid eyes on a red vintage Chanel bag and immediately fell in love . Sure I had been exposed to them earlier however I never actually cared, I only ever associated these premier labels with pretentious attitudes….this time however I wanted to discover the history behind it all and develop a true appreciation for them . I then spent every spare moment on the Chanel website browsing bags, accessories, shoes and then researching the genius behind it all, Gabrielle aka Coco Chanel . As sad as it may sound I’d just die at the sight of this bag . I eventually purchased a pair of ballet flats, yet still longed for the bag . After 4 years of drooling over this bag a found myself in the Rome store with the intention to purchase gumboots . I decided to ask how much the Classic Jumbo was…3400 euros she replied . In comparison to the $5690 price tag in Australia that was already tempting…but the thought of carrying this treasure everywhere over Europe made me hesitant . She asked if I wanted to look at the bag, even though I’d spent 4 years looking over every intricate detail of this bag I thought yeah why not! As I picked up the bag and glanced at it in the mirror i fell in love all over again . I placed the bag back on the counter and was about to walk away when the shop assistant reached for the bag…I immediately put my hand back on the bag and firmly said “I’ll take it” . I spent the rest of the day shaking with adrenalin .

this photo was taken post purchase as evident by the Chanel bag and giant grin on my face!

ripped shorts, cobble stones & a small italian town .

M wears top by sportsgirl, shorts by Oneteaspoon, shoes by converse, bag by Mimco .

Anagni, a small town not far from Rome where my grandfather grew up before he migrated to Australia . I was 7 years old when I last visited on a family holiday, I even threw up during our 3 hour drive from Carpineto to Anagni .
I soon discovered how beautiful this town was and how much history it has, but more importantly I was able to learn about a part of my heritage and where some of the fond stories my grandfather shared had actually happened . You tend to lack such great appreciation and understanding at a young age, but at 23 this day was very important to me . Live every moment like its your last and never take an experience or story for granted because in time they are just memories you grasp on to .

Top model, surry hills and meeting Josh Flinn .

Coveted model mentor on Australia’s Next Top Model, Josh Flinn just happened to be standing next to me at the bar in Surry Hills – The Clock Hotel .
Oblivious to anything but my beverage being made in front of me, my sister nudged me and told me to look and see who was standing to my left .
“excuse me, sorry to interrupt but do I know you from somewhere you look familiar?”
“that’s ok!” he replies
“are you on tv?”
He smiles at me
“top model?”
“yes I am!” he replied, followed by a discussion entailing his envy for my hair and a photo!
He was so lovely, the moment I introduced myself he spoke to me as though we were old friends . Sometimes you forget that people with a celebrity status can be normal too .

This is one of my favourite ysl rings . But I guess I say that about all of them…how can you not love them all equally . They are all stunning pieces which catch ones eye from afar . I think I’m overdue for a new one…perhaps white next?
