Don’t hate what you don’t understand .

Just some food for thought on a Thursday . Former Beatles member John Lennon was notorious for his influential perspectives on life . My favourite quote of his is;
“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

fur, silk & selfies .

M wears skirt and jacket by Daniela-Stephanie, rings by Alexander McQueen and YSL, tshirt by Sportsgirl, watch by Marc Jacobs, boots by dotti .

I kind of wish I had a minion that would follow me around taking photos of me . like Rumi Neely or Nicole Warne who are at ease with their savvy photographer boyfriends capturing their essential moves and wardrobe changes . Instead…I have to revert to selfies…with my iPhone . Woo me!

I mentioned a few weeks back that J& i would be shooting pieces from Daniela-Stephanie’s range . I dropped in to Daniela’s design studio to review some more pieces that had arrived from her PR agency so I could source them for our shoot . And there it was…the georgette skirt that I have been eyeing for at least 4 months .

What looks like fur is actually rouched silk, this skirt retails around the $3000 mark but it is absolutely amazing . I had to try it on and it will definitely feature in our upcoming shoot for Honey&Hook .

colour me purple.

so, admittedly i’m not the biggest fan of Lindsay Lohan but when i stumbled across her photo shoot for Purple Magazine in late 2010 i was completely captivated. Shot by Terry Richardson who is notorious for his provocative-verging-on-obscene photography style the shoot doesn’t fail to disappoint in pushing the envelope.

Despite the uncertainty around whether Richardson is a perverted creep or an utter genius he’s got me sitting up and paying attention.

Whilst Richardson utilizes the strategies of many photographers alike; risque poses, states of undress, questionable surroundings and smatterings of ‘reality’ his images seem to capture a rawness that many others fail to. Perhaps thats just his game but i know that when i look at this shoot i feel like i’m possibly viewing pieces of Ms Lohan’s genuine persona. Capturing fleeting moments and images of reality on film are so difficult, because, obviously when a camera is present there is always an element of facade working to veil it. A filthy sleaze he may be but Richardson deserves credit for his innate ability to captivate his audiences by photographically straddling the fine line between reality and fantasy.

and the infamous Terry Richardson himself….

I have a sneaking suspicion that Richardson’s decision to style this shoot just so was more than tactical. His success in capturing the rawness of Lohan’s personality and (questionable) innocence forayed him into further shoots with her for Love Magazine earlier this year.

hippy at heart.

there’s a really simple pattern keeps repeating itself in my life. every time i go travelling or am by the beach for any longer than a week i quickly revert into what i feel like must be my ‘hippy roots’. i wander around in bare feet, grow extra anklets, rings, toe rings and a sheepish smile on my face. my hair becomes extra dishevelled, there’s sand stuck to my skin and pieces of string tied around my wrists that i find, claiming they have some kind of cosmic significance. i’m not sure what it is about travel that reiterates for me that there is so much beauty found in simplicity but its always rung true for me. with simplicity comes ease, with ease comfort and with comfort comes natural beauty.

i’ve never captured a photograph of me in this ‘natural hippy state’, i think its more a way of being than looking but below is one that reminded me of the evolution that keeps happening upon me.

the photograph is from a night when we all decided to dress up like ‘a garden’, granted the hippy connotations are obvious seeing as i was dressed as flower, but, perhaps this is how my inner hippy would look. (scuze the toilet settings – hey hippies don’t discriminate!)

peace.

I felt like I was back at uni again, studying for an exam that would determine my career . Now that I am 150% certain that a career in fashion is something I am determined to exceed in and something that I’m passionate about, this interview became the most important 30 minutes of my life .
After a whole day at work, studying and preparing more to then talking to myself and practicing my answers and how I would structure my sentences, I was finally there . 30 nerve racking minutes . Though I thought I did rather well I had to wait till 9:30am the next day for the result .
In the mean time my boy took me to dinner at a Polish restaurant in Surry Hills for our one month 🙂 was nice to relax and let my hair out .

A phone call, excitement & FBI Fashion Business College .

After sitting on the fence for almost 2 months I finally built up the courage to submit my application on Friday night to FBI Fashion College . As I nervously waited all weekend for their response, my phone rang this morning and I knew instantly . I ran out the door at work to answer and it was FBI congratulating me on a successful application and moving forward with the next step, an interview . Wednesday afternoon at 4pm . I’ve been shaking with nerves and excitement since that phone call .
What am I going to wear!? Eeep!

Anyone who has been on a holiday to Europe will understand the feeling you get when you realise you only have a few days left until you’re due to return home again . This is one of my favourite photos I’ve ever taken, it’s like they say; a photo says 1000 words .

black & white, stripes & spots, leather & stretch .

Image Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista for Vogue .

I love this look, very classic and Chanel inspired . there’s just something about stripes and nautical prints that get me everytime – the stripes in this picture give it quite an edgy feel but the polka dots compliment it with a feminine touch .

knitted sweaters & the eiffel tower .

M wears sweater by jay jays, boots by roc, ring by YSL, bag by miu miu .

If you have made the assumption that I am obsessed with over-sized knitted sweaters then you stand correct . This particular one frequented my outfit choice as I sent home the warmer contents of my suitcase .
Paris; The city I fell in love with, contrary to populace experiences, I had the most amazing time. I stayed at Hotel Castille situated on Rue Cambon, conveniently right next door to the original Chanel store and her apartment – fantastic location and within close proximity to everything . A stunning symmetrical city with infinite culture and architecture , Paris will be seeing more of me very soon I hope!
